Why bother with social media marketing

Aug 11, 2008

Traffikd has an interesting post on their 13 reasons why social media marketing is worth your time, including “it’s free,” which is, of course, everyone’s favorite part. They also list:

It’s flexible. True, there are tons of different options, from social networking sites like Facebook to bookmarking sites like Digg or StumbleUpon. And, if you’re not seeing results from one, you can try another one (or 10!). And, since it’s free, there’s no limit to how many options you try at once.

It offers quick results. It’s possible to create content that’s seen instantly by hundreds, if not thousands of people. Of course, the trick is to make it quality content that people will actually care about, not just skim.

And, my personal favorite reason: The future of the Internet is social. The future? Even the present is highly social, and that will only increase with time. More and more companies and brands are plugging into their demographics in the way their demographic is preferring to get their information: online. Through blogs, Twitter, RSS feeds and more, marketers are reaching a larger audience faster than ever before, and that’s not a trend that’s likely to go away–ever.

No more excuses: start blogging!

Jul 25, 2008

A new study shows that only 15 percent of Fortune 500 companies use blogs to communicate with consumers. That’s pretty shocking from the consumer perspective as well as an Internet marketing. But the real question is why?

According to SearchRank, many companies–smaller ones included–don’t realize they can set up a blog for no cost. They also think they have nothing to write about, which is probably one of the biggest misconceptions when it comes to blogs. If you have business (of any kind), you have plenty to say: from industry news, company news, opinions on industry-related news and events, etc. The list goes on and on.

Think you can’t benefit from a blog? Think again. A blog is an easy way to get your news and views out there, to share information and also get inbound links to your site. There’s nothing to lose.
